Conclusion & Next Steps
On 10 June 2025, the Railway Board approved a CEN for 6,374 vacancies of Technician Grade-III in 51 distinct categories following an assessment via OIRMS and HRMS. Rather than issuing separate notifications for similar roles, 33 of these categories will be “clubbed” into 12 (see Section 3). The final CEN will thus cover 30 categories (18 unique + 12 clubbed) to simplify the recruitment process.
Vacancies have been apportioned across 18 Zonal Railways and Production Units. Below is a snapshot of the top five vacancy-heavy zones; download the PDF for the full list.
To avoid redundant notifications and streamline medical standards, PwBD criteria, and qualifications, the Board has consolidated 33 allied categories into 12. Key examples include:
Electrical Trades:
Technician Gr. III Electrical (GS), Electrical (TRD), Electrical (Workshop)
Mechanical Trades:
Fitter (GS & Workshop), Welder (GS & Workshop)
Diesel & Signal:
Diesel Electrical & Diesel Mechanical (Shed & Workshop), Signal & Telecom
The final CEN will clearly mention all sub-departments (e.g., Workshops, Production Units) merged under each clubbed category.
Educational Qualification:
Technician Grade-III:
Engineering Diploma in the relevant trade (first class wherever specified) from an AICTE-recognized institute.
Age Limit (as on date of notification):
Typically 18–33 years, with relaxations for SC/ST (+5 yrs), OBC-NCL (+3 yrs), PwBD (+10/15/13 yrs), and Ex-Servicemen as per Railway Board rules.
Reservation:
Vacancies are distributed as per government norms—SC (15%), ST (7.5%), OBC-NCL (27%), EWS (10%), and horizontal reservation for PwBD, Ex-SM, etc.
Railways must ensure both backlog and current reservations are met when finalizing indents.

Q3. How are backlogs handled? Both backlog and current vacancies are included in the 6,374 total. Zonal indents must cover requests for any shortfall.
Q4. What is OIRMS? The Online Indenting & Recruitment Management System used by Railways/PUs to submit their vacancy requirements to the Board.
Q5. Who will conduct the recruitment process? Shortlisting, CBT, and trade tests will be managed by the respective RRBs, with final panel allocation by the Zonal Railways/PUs.
